The 50's and 60's era really inspired me when it came to character choices, costume and styling I particularly am influenced by Actress, model, socialite and heiress Edie Sedgwick.
During this period of the swinging 60's and as she became a protege of Andy Warhol she developed her "trademark" look - black leotards, mini dresses, and large chandelier earrings. Sedgwick also cut her hair short and colored her naturally brown hair with silver spray, creating a similar look to the wigs Warhol wore. Warhol christened her his "Superstar" and both were photographed together at various social outings. Her trademark look described above has inspired my costume and casting of character for my short film
Edie Sedgwick
1950's Female icons
The 50's era is well known for its rock and roll, fashion and femininity. The 50's was an era where interest in film and cinema started to rise and stars like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren became icons during this post-war era.
Costume and Make-up
What I particularly like from the 50's and 60's era is the costume and make-up. In my short film I will be using a wardrobe inspired by both these era's in particular for the femme fatale, inspired by Edie Sedgwick, such as the Fur coat, Red lipstick, thick penciled eye-brows, chandelier type earings, high heels, tights, A-line mini skirt/dresses, thick eyeliner with fake eyelashes. with props such as, cigarettes.
For the male protagonist I will use a smart casual dress wearing jeans with smart black shoes, with props such as gloves and cigarettes also to coincide with the film noir conventions.
